Ingredients

  • 4 pounds Pork shoulder (bone-in or boneless)
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • 0.5 cup White vinegar
  • 0.5 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Hot sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar (for sauce)
  • 0.5 cup Chicken broth
  • 8 Hamburger buns or sandwich rolls (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, chili powder, and cayenne pepper to make the dry rub.

Step 2

Rub the spice mixture evenly all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it’s well-coated.

Step 3

Place the seasoned pork shoulder into the crock pot.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, yellow mustard, hot sauce, brown sugar, and chicken broth to create the sauce.

Step 5

Pour half the sauce mixture over the pork shoulder in the crock pot. Reserve the other half for later.

Step 6

Set the crock pot to low heat and cook the pork for 8 hours, or until it is fork-tender and easily pulls apart.

Step 7

Once cooked, remove the pork shoulder from the crock pot and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.

Step 8

Return the shredded pork to the crock pot and mix it with the cooking juices.

Step 9

If desired, warm the reserved sauce and drizzle it over the pulled pork for additional flavor.

Step 10

Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns or sandwich rolls, or enjoy it on its own with coleslaw on the side.
