Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef (sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced)
  • 14 ounces chow mein noodles (fresh or dry)
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (freshly grated)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 large carrot (julienned)
  • 1 medium red bell pepper (thinly sliced)
  • 3 stalks green onions (sliced into 1-inch pieces)
  • 2 cups bean sprouts
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 6 cups water (for cooking the noodles)

Directions

Step 1

Start by preparing your ingredients. Slice the beef thinly and place it in a bowl.

Step 2

Marinate the beef by adding 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Mix well and set aside for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Cook the chow mein noodles according to the package instructions (usually boil for 3-4 minutes if using fresh noodles or as directed for dry noodles). Drain and rinse under cold water. Toss with a drizzle of sesame oil to prevent sticking and set aside.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sriracha. Stir well and set the sauce aside.

Step 5

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef and set aside on a plate.

Step 6

In the same wok, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, stir-frying for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 7

Add the carrot and red bell pepper to the wok, stir-frying for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.

Step 8

Add the cooked noodles back into the wok, followed by the bean sprouts and green onions. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture and toss everything together until well coated and heated through, about 2 minutes.

Step 9

Return the cooked beef to the wok and toss it with the noodles and vegetables. Cook for an additional minute to ensure everything is evenly mixed and hot.

Step 10

Remove from heat and serve the Spicy Beef Chow Mein immediately. Enjoy your meal!
