Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 0.5 red onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 avocados
  • 1 lime
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
  • 0.5 jalapeño
  • 1 tomato
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, finely chopped red onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.

Step 2

Divide the turkey mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Step 3

Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and let it heat up. Cook the burger patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking.

Step 4

While the burgers cook, prepare the guacamole. In a medium bowl, mash the avocados with a fork until smooth. Add lime juice, finely chopped cilantro, minced jalapeño (remove seeds for less heat), diced tomato, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.

Step 5

Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the skillet or grill pan, if desired.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a turkey burger patty, a generous spoonful of guacamole, and the top half of the bun.

Step 7

Serve immediately with your choice of sides, such as baked sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.
