Ingredients

  • 4 whole Pears (firm, ripe, such as Bosc or Anjou)
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 1 whole Cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole Star anise
  • 4 whole Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 strip Orange zest

Directions

Step 1

Peel the pears, leaving the stems intact. Trim the bottoms slightly so they can stand upright if desired.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the water, granulated sugar, honey, and lemon juice. Stir to dissolve the sugar.

Step 3

Add the cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, vanilla extract, and orange zest to the saucepan.

Step 4

Place the peeled pears into the saucepan, making sure they are mostly submerged in the liquid. If needed, you can lay the pears on their sides or use a small plate to keep them submerged.
