Ingredients

  • 340 grams fresh cranberries
  • 150 grams granulated sugar
  • 120 milliliters water
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and discard any that are bruised or damaged.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 3

Add the cranberries to the saucepan along with the orange zest, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, and a pinch of salt.

Step 4

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cranberries start to burst and the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 5

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 6

Allow the cranberries to cool to room temperature. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Step 7

Transfer the spiced cranberries to a serving dish or an airtight container for storage. Refrigerate for up to one week.

Step 8

Serve as a side dish, spread, or topping for your favorite holiday meals or desserts.
