Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground cloves
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Buttermilk
  • 0.25 cups Unsalted butter (melted and slightly cooled)
  • 1 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Grated apple (peeled, about 1 medium apple)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and granulated sugar until well combined.

Step 3

In a separate medium bowl, beat the eggs. Then add the buttermilk, melted unsalted butter, and vanilla extract, whisking until fully combined.

Step 4

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; some lumps are okay.

Step 5

Fold in the grated apple until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Step 6

Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or brush it with a small amount of melted butter.

Step 7

Drop about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter (depending on the size of your waffle iron) onto the center of the preheated waffle grid. Close the lid and cook until the waffle is golden brown and cooked through, usually 4-5 minutes per waffle.

Step 8

Carefully remove the cooked waffle and repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the waffle iron as needed between batches.

Step 9

Serve the waffles warm, topped with your favorite toppings such as maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, or additional fresh apple slices.
