Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups Spelt flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 cup Warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 teaspoon Honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the spelt flour and salt. Mix well to evenly distribute the salt throughout the flour.

Step 2

In a small bowl or glass, combine warm water, honey (or maple syrup), and instant yeast. Stir gently to dissolve and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 3

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Step 4

Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix until a dough begins to form. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more spelt flour, 1 tablespoon at a time. If it’s too dry, add a little warm water, 1 teaspoon at a time.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a clean surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.

Step 8

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

Step 9

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a piece of parchment paper for easy transfer to the oven.

Step 10

Add your desired toppings to the crust.

Step 11

Carefully slide the parchment paper with the pizza onto the preheated baking stone or baking sheet.

Step 12

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are cooked to your liking.

Step 13

Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, slice, and enjoy your homemade spelt pizza crust!
