Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 250 g ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 50 g breadcrumbs
  • 60 ml milk
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 tsp ground allspice
  • 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 30 g butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 400 ml beef stock
  • 120 ml heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, soak the breadcrumbs in the milk for 5 minutes until softened.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, ground allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix well using your hands or a spoon until evenly combined.

Step 3

Form the meat mixture into small balls, about 1-inch in diameter, and set them aside on a plate.

Step 4

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, ensuring they do not overcrowd the pan, and cook for 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides. Remove the cooked meatballs and set them aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add the flour to the remaining butter or drippings and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to form a roux.

Step 6

Gradually whisk in the beef stock, ensuring there are no lumps. Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.

Step 7

Stir in the heavy cream and season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them, and let them simmer in the sauce for 5 minutes.

Step 8

Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately. These meatballs pair wonderfully with buttered noodles, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables.
