Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
Remove the membrane from the back of the spareribs. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels.
In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar.
Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the ribs. Wrap the ribs tightly in aluminum foil, sealing them completely.
Place the foil-wrapped ribs on a baking sheet and bake for 2 hours, or until tender and the meat easily pulls away from the bone.
While the ribs bake, prepare the barbecue sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and liquid smoke (if using).
Heat the barbecue sauce over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it begins to simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
After 2 hours, remove the ribs from the oven and carefully unwrap them. Turn on your oven's broiler.
Brush one side of the ribs generously with the prepared barbecue sauce. Place the ribs under the broiler for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce caramelizes and becomes sticky. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
Flip the ribs over, brush the other side with sauce, and broil for another 3-5 minutes.
Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes. Cut into individual ribs and serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
