Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Pork spareribs
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium, diced Yellow onion
  • 3 minced Garlic cloves
  • 3 medium, peeled and sliced Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons, chopped Fresh thyme

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).

Step 2

Season the spareribs generously on both sides with salt and black pepper.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Sear the spareribs for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are browned. Remove the spareribs and set them aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and sauté the diced onion for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Step 6

Stir in the apple slices, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, ground cinnamon, and fresh thyme. Cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.

Step 7

Return the spareribs to the skillet, nestling them into the apple mixture.

Step 8

Cover the skillet with a lid (or foil if you’re using a baking dish) and transfer it to the preheated oven.

Step 9

Bake for 90 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 30 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.

Step 10

Remove the skillet from the oven and let the dish rest for 5-10 minutes.

Step 11

Serve the spareribs alongside the caramelized apples and sauce. Enjoy the savory and sweet combination!
