Ingredients

  • 12 oz can Spam
  • 0.75 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 1.25 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup Ranch dressing or dipping sauce of choice (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Slice the Spam into 12 even sticks, approximately 3 inches long and 0.5 inches thick.

Step 2

Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls. In the first bowl, add the all-purpose flour. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth. In the third bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper.

Step 3

Dredge each Spam stick in the flour, coating it completely and shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated. Finally, roll it in the seasoned panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently so the breadcrumbs adhere well. Repeat with all the Spam sticks.

Step 4

In a deep frying pan or heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (180°C). You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of breadcrumb—if it sizzles and turns golden in about 15 seconds, the oil is ready.

Step 5

Fry the Spam sticks in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook each stick for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried sticks to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 7

Serve the Spam sticks warm with ranch dressing or your preferred dipping sauce on the side. Enjoy!
