Ingredients

  • 400 grams spaghetti
  • 200 grams bacon
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 units garlic cloves
  • 300 grams cherry tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 50 grams Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
  • 10 grams fresh basil leaves (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water and drain the rest.

Step 2

While the pasta cooks, dice the bacon into small pieces. Finely chop the onion and garlic. Halve the cherry tomatoes.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Add the diced bacon and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until crispy.

Step 4

Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring until softened.

Step 5

Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 6

Add the cherry tomatoes, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well and cook for 5-6 minutes until the tomatoes soften and release their juices.

Step 7

Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to combine with the sauce. If the sauce seems too dry, add a splash of the reserved pasta water until the desired consistency is reached.

Step 8

Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt or pepper if necessary.

Step 9

Serve the spaghetti hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves, if desired.
