Ingredients

  • 400 grams spaghetti
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 1 medium, finely chopped onion
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 800 grams tomato sauce
  • 200 grams, shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 liters water

Directions

Step 1

Boil a large pot of water with 1 teaspoon of salt. Once boiling, add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, 2 minced garlic cloves, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, oregano, basil, 0.5 teaspoons of salt, and black pepper.

Step 3

Mix the meat mixture thoroughly with your hands until all ingredients are well combined.

Step 4

Shape the mixture into small balls about the size of a golf ball.

Step 5

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes. Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside.

Step 6

In the same skillet, add the remaining minced garlic clove and sauté for about 30 seconds. Pour in the tomato sauce, stirring to combine.

Step 7

Return the meatballs to the skillet with the sauce. Lower the heat and let simmer for 20 minutes, allowing the meatballs to cook through.

Step 8

Add the spaghetti to the meatball and sauce mixture, gently tossing to coat the pasta evenly in the sauce.

Step 9

Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the spaghetti and meatballs. Cover and let the cheese melt for around 2-3 minutes.

Step 10

Serve hot, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
