  • 1 cup mushrooms, chopped
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary and set the cooked meat aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add a little more olive oil if needed. Add the diced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
