Ingredients

  • 400 grams spaghetti
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons red chili flakes
  • 180 grams canned tuna in olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
  • 0 to taste salt
  • 0 to taste black pepper
  • 120 milliliters spaghetti cooking water

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Reserve 120 milliliters of the pasta cooking water before draining the spaghetti.

Step 2

While the pasta cooks, finely mince the garlic and set aside.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red chili flakes, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 4

Add the canned tuna, breaking it apart gently with a spatula. Stir in the capers and sauté for 1-2 minutes until warmed through.

Step 5

Stir in the lemon zest and lemon juice, mixing well to combine. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 6

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet, along with the reserved pasta cooking water. Toss everything together over medium heat until the spaghetti is evenly coated and the sauce slightly thickens, about 2 minutes.

Step 7

Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley.

Step 8

Serve immediately, garnished with additional parsley or a sprinkle of chili flakes if desired.
