Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounces canned tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces canned tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 0.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Step 3

Transfer the cooked ground beef to the crock pot.

Step 4

In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion until soft and translucent, about 3–5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute, stirring frequently to prevent burning.

Step 5

Add the cooked onion and garlic to the crock pot.

Step 6

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, dried parsley, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), salt, pepper, and water to the crock pot.

Step 7

Stir everything together until well combined.

Step 8

Cover the crock pot with the lid and cook on low for 6–8 hours, or on high for 3–4 hours, stirring occasionally.

Step 9

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed before serving.

Step 10

Serve hot over cooked spaghetti noodles and garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
