Ingredients

  • 400 g Spaghetti
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 4 minced Garlic cloves
  • 800 g Crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 0.5 tsp Red chili flakes
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Dried basil
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 8 leaves, chopped Fresh basil
  • 50 g, grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Step 1

Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Once boiling, add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes or until it becomes translucent.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 4

Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, mixing well to combine with the sautéed onions and garlic.

Step 5

Season the sauce with red chili flakes, dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir to incorporate all the spices evenly.

Step 6

Bring the sauce to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, and let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, to thicken and develop flavors.

Step 7

Once the sauce has thickened to your preference, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Step 8

Add the cooked spaghetti to the marinara sauce and toss until the pasta is thoroughly coated with the sauce.

Step 9

Serve the spaghetti marinara in individual bowls or plates, garnishing with freshly chopped basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese.
