Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 4 pieces Large eggs
  • 0.5 cups Milk
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 cups Cooked ham, diced
  • 1.5 cups Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 0.75 cups Heavy cream
  • 0.5 teaspoons Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and nutmeg. Create a well in the center and add the eggs and milk.

Step 3

Stir the mixture until it forms a smooth but slightly thick batter. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Using a spaetzle maker or a colander with large holes, press the batter through into the boiling water.

Step 5

Cook the spaetzle for 2-3 minutes until they float. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a bowl filled with ice water to stop the cooking. Drain well.

Step 6

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the spaetzle. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until lightly golden.

Step 7

Transfer the spaetzle to the prepared baking dish. Add the diced ham, shredded Gruyere, heavy cream, and black pepper. Mix everything evenly in the dish.

Step 8

Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.

Step 9

Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
