Ingredients

  • 300 grams Ground pork
  • 200 grams Raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 50 grams Water chestnuts, finely chopped
  • 2 stalks Green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, grated
  • 1 clove Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon White pepper powder
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 20 pieces Wonton wrappers (round)
  • 1 small Carrot, finely grated (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, finely chopped shrimp, water chestnuts, and green onions.

Step 2

Add the grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil, salt, and white pepper powder to the mixture.

Step 3

Sprinkle in the cornstarch and mix everything thoroughly until well combined.

Step 4

Prepare a clean surface and place a wonton wrapper in your palm. Add about a tablespoon of filling to the center.

Step 5

Gently gather the edges of the wrapper around the filling, leaving the top exposed. Lightly squeeze to form a cup shape.

Step 6

Repeat the process with remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 7

Bring a large pot of water to a boil, and line a bamboo or metal steamer basket with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Step 8

Place the siu mai in the steamer basket, leaving space between each dumpling.

Step 9

Steam the siu mai over boiling water for about 8-10 minutes, until the filling is cooked through and the wrappers are tender.

Step 10

Garnish each siu mai with a small pinch of grated carrot for a pop of color before serving.

Step 11

Serve the soy-free siu mai immediately with your choice of dipping sauce.
