Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1.25 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sea salt
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon water

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

Add in the melted unsalted butter and salt, then gradually add the flour. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
