Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Begin by cutting the chicken breast into small bite-sized pieces, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in size.

Step 2

Place the chicken pieces into a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Step 4

In another small bowl, whisk together the eggs and water until fully blended.

Step 5

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.

Step 6

Remove the chicken pieces from the buttermilk and shake off any excess.

Step 7

Dip each piece of chicken into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and back into the flour mixture, making sure each piece is coated well.

Step 8

Carefully place several chicken pieces into the hot oil without overcrowding the pan. Fry in batches if necessary.

Step 9

Cook the chicken nuggets for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and fully cooked through.

Step 10

Remove the nuggets from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 11

Serve the chicken nuggets hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
