Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1.25 cups Warm water (110°F)
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoons Dried thyme
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 24 slices Pepperoni slices
  • 1 medium Green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup Mushrooms, sliced

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.

Step 2

Gradually add warm water and mix until a sticky dough begins to form.

Step 3

Add melted butter and olive oil. Gradually stir in the remaining flour until the dough is soft and not sticky.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 6-8 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 6

While the dough is rising, prepare the sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, oregano, basil, and thyme.

Step 7

Simmer the sauce for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until slightly thickened. Set aside.

Step 8

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

Step 9

Punch down the dough and transfer to a lightly oiled 12-inch cast-iron skillet or deep-dish pizza pan.

Step 10

Press the dough evenly into the pan, ensuring it covers the bottom and sides to form a crust.

Step 11

Sprinkle an even layer of mozzarella cheese at the bottom of the crust.

Step 12

Layer with pepperoni slices, bell pepper, and mushrooms.

Step 13

Spread the prepared tomato sauce evenly over the toppings.

Step 14

Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Step 15

Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Step 16

Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
