Ingredients

  • 500 grams Potatoes
  • 200 grams Ground meat (chicken or beef)
  • 1 large Onion
  • 2 large Garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons Cilantro leaves
  • 2 medium Green chilies
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 tablespoons Corn flour
  • 500 milliliters Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Peel and cut the potatoes into cubes. Place them in a pot of salted water and boil until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 2

Drain the potatoes and mash them in a bowl. Set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3

Finely chop the onion, garlic, cilantro, and green chilies. Set them aside.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, ground meat, chopped onion, garlic, cilantro, and green chilies.

Step 5

Add the egg, ground white pepper, and salt into the mixture and mix until well combined.

Step 6

Take small portions of the mixture (about 2 tablespoons) and shape them into patties, flattening slightly.

Step 7

Dust each patty lightly with corn flour on both sides to ensure crispiness.

Step 8

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Ensure the oil is hot enough for frying.

Step 9

Gently place the patties into the hot oil and fry in batches. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Step 10

Once cooked, remove the patties and let them drain on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

Step 11

Serve the bergedil hot, as a snack or a side dish.
