Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Medium potatoes
  • 1 cup Chickpea flour (Besan)
  • 1/4 cup Rice flour
  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Oil for frying

Directions

Step 1

Peel the potatoes and slice them into thin, round slices approximately 1/4 inch thick. Set aside.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine the chickpea flour, rice flour, cumin seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt.

Step 3

Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously to form a smooth, thick batter. It should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon without dripping too quickly.

Step 4

Add the chopped coriander leaves and baking soda to the batter and mix well.

Step 5

Heat oil in a deep pan or wok over medium heat.

Step 6

Dip each potato slice into the batter, ensuring it is well-coated.

Step 7

Carefully place the coated potato slices in the hot oil, a few at a time, without overcrowding the pan.

Step 8

Fry the potato slices for 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until they turn golden brown and crispy.

Step 9

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried bateta wara from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 10

Serve hot as a snack or appetizer with chutney or sauce of your choice.
