Ingredients

  • 100 grams All-purpose flour
  • 150 grams Caster sugar
  • 60 grams Unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 750 milliliters Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch Salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 23cm (9-inch) pie dish or baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, caster sugar, and salt until evenly combined.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, lightly beat the eggs, then stir in the melted butter, vanilla extract, and milk. Mix well to combine.

Step 4

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, whisking continuously until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The mixture will be very runny, which is normal.

Step 5

Pour the batter into the prepared pie dish and sprinkle the ground cinnamon evenly over the top.

Step 6

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is just set but still slightly wobbly.

Step 7

Remove the milk tart from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature. The tart will set further as it cools.

Step 8

Serve at room temperature or chilled. Slice into portions and enjoy this South African favorite!
