Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Sour cream
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 2

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract and sour cream until fully incorporated.

Step 3

In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 4

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until a soft dough forms. Avoid over-mixing.

Step 5

Divide the dough into two portions and flatten each into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm.

Step 6

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 7

On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion of dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Keep the other portion refrigerated until ready to use.

Step 8

Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden. Do not overbake to maintain the soft texture.

Step 10

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 11

Repeat the rolling and baking process with the remaining dough.

Step 12

Once the cookies are completely cool, decorate as desired with icing, sprinkles, or edible decorations.
