Ingredients

  • 900 grams sour cherries (pitted, fresh or frozen)
  • 100 grams granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 15 grams cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 150 grams all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 50 grams rolled oats
  • 100 grams light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 115 grams unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 9-inch (23cm) baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the sour cherries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Mix until the cherries are evenly coated. Set aside to allow the juices to release while you prepare the crumble topping.

Step 3

In another bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.

Step 4

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use your hands or a pastry cutter to rub the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 5

Pour the cherry mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 6

Sprinkle the crumble topping over the cherries, covering them entirely.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbling.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
