Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 250 grams Ground pork
  • 100 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 50 grams Parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 60 milliliters Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 small Onion, finely grated
  • 3 tablespoons Parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Thyme, fresh leaves
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper, freshly ground
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 500 milliliters Tomato sauce (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for five minutes until the breadcrumbs absorb the liquid and soften.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, add the ground beef, ground pork, softened breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, grated onion, parsley, thyme, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.

Step 3

Using clean hands, mix the ingredients until well combined. Be careful not to overwork the mixture, as this can make the meatballs tough.

Step 4

Form the mixture into evenly sized meatballs, about the size of a golf ball. Aim for approximately 16-18 meatballs.

Step 5

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the meatballs in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.

Step 6

Cook the meatballs for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until nicely browned. Transfer them to a plate and continue with the remaining meatballs.

Step 7

If serving with tomato sauce, heat the tomato sauce in the same skillet once all the meatballs are browned. Add the meatballs back to the skillet, cover, and simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes until cooked through.

Step 8

Serve the meatballs hot, garnished with additional parsley if desired, alongside pasta, rice, or crusty bread.
