Ingredients

  • 4 cups Water
  • 2 tablespoons (or 2 tea bags) Black tea leaves or tea bags
  • 4 Cardamom pods
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 3 Cloves
  • 1 inch piece (sliced or grated) Fresh ginger
  • 4 tablespoons (or to taste) Sugar
  • 1 cup Milk

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a gentle boil over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and fresh ginger to the boiling water. Let the spices steep in the water for about 5 minutes to release their flavors.

Step 3

Reduce the heat to low and add the black tea leaves or tea bags to the saucepan. Simmer gently for 2-3 minutes, or longer if you prefer stronger tea.

Step 4

Stir in the sugar and mix well until it dissolves. Add more sugar if desired, adjusting for your preferred level of sweetness.

Step 5

Pour in the milk and increase the heat slightly to allow the tea to come back to a gentle simmer. Let it simmer for an additional 3-5 minutes to fully infuse the flavors.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat. Strain the tea into a teapot or directly into serving cups to remove the spices and tea leaves.

Step 7

Serve hot and enjoy your authentic Somalian Tea along with a snack, such as a piece of sweet bread or samosa.
