Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Sour cream

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 2

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until fully combined.

Step 5

Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the sour cream. Mix until the sour cream is well incorporated. The mixture may look slightly curdled—this is normal.

Step 6

Still on low speed, slowly add the dry ingredients from the medium bowl to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 7

Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.

Step 8

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are set and just starting to turn golden. The centers should still look soft and slightly underbaked.

Step 9

Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Optional: Once cooled, decorate the cookies with frosting, glaze, or sprinkles, if desired.
