Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.33 cup Vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 cup Warm water

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Step 2

Add the vegetable oil (or melted butter) into the dry ingredients and use your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Gradually pour in the warm water while stirring with a spoon or your hands. Mix until the dough comes together into a soft and slightly sticky ball.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 3-5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time.

Step 5

Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Cover the dough balls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rest for 10-15 minutes to relax the gluten.

Step 6

On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll out each dough ball into a thin, round tortilla, approximately 8-10 inches in diameter.

Step 7

Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place one tortilla on the hot pan and cook for 30-60 seconds, or until bubbles form and the bottom develops light golden spots.

Step 8

Flip the tortilla and cook for another 30 seconds on the other side. Remove from the skillet and cover with a clean kitchen towel to keep warm.

Step 9

Repeat with the remaining dough balls, stacking the cooked tortillas on top of each other and keeping them covered.

Step 10

Serve the tortillas warm or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. They can also be frozen for longer storage.
