Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups store-bought marinara sauce
  • 4 pieces sub rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all the ingredients are well combined, but do not overwork the mixture.

Step 3

Roll the mixture into small, bite-sized meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 4

Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until fully cooked and browned on the outside.

Step 5

While the meatballs are baking, warm the marinara sauce in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Step 6

Once the meatballs are done, transfer them into the saucepan with the marinara sauce and let them simmer for 5 minutes, stirring gently to coat the meatballs evenly in the sauce.

Step 7

Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through. Place the rolls on a separate baking sheet.

Step 8

Spoon the meatballs and sauce into each roll, dividing them evenly among the four subs. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of each sub.

Step 9

Place the subs under the broiler in your oven for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.

Step 10

Remove the subs from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
