Ingredients

  • 4 pieces cubed steak
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Pat the cubed steaks dry with paper towels.

Step 2

Season both sides of the steaks with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Step 3

Dredge the steaks lightly in the all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 5

Add the steaks in batches and sear for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown. Remove the steaks and set them aside on a plate.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to medium and add the sliced onions to the same skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden.

Step 7

Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, until they release their liquid and begin to brown.

Step 8

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of the reserved flour into the skillet (from dredging) and stir well to coat the onions and mushrooms.

Step 9

Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 10

Return the steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce the heat to low.

Step 11

Allow the steaks to simmer for 25-30 minutes, until they are tender and cooked through.

Step 12

Stir in the heavy cream and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed.

Step 13

Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve warm with mashed potatoes or rice.
