Ingredients

  • 2 racks pork spareribs
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1.5 cups barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)
  • 2 cans baked beans (canned)
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 1 medium diced onion
  • 4 slices bacon

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Step 2

Prepare the dry rub by combining smoked paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.

Step 3

Pat the spareribs dry with paper towels and remove the membrane from the back of the ribs, if necessary.

Step 4

Rub the dry seasoning mixture evenly onto both sides of the spareribs, pressing gently so the spices adhere.

Step 5

Wrap each rack of ribs tightly in aluminum foil and place them on a baking sheet.

Step 6

Bake the ribs in the preheated oven for 3 hours, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork.

Step 7

While the ribs are baking, prepare the barbecue sauce by combining barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, honey, and optional liquid smoke in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Set aside.

Step 8

To prepare the beans, dice the bacon into small pieces and cook in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet with a slotted spoon and set it aside.

Step 9

In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion in the bacon fat until softened, about 3 minutes.

Step 10

Stir in the canned baked beans, yellow mustard, and half the cooked bacon. Let the mixture simmer on low while stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes.

Step 11

After 3 hours, remove the ribs from the oven and carefully unwrap the foil.

Step 12

Preheat your grill to medium heat or set your oven broiler to high.

Step 13

Brush the ribs generously with the prepared barbecue sauce.

Step 14

Grill or broil the ribs for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the sauce is caramelized and sticky.

Step 15

Slice the ribs into individual portions and garnish with the reserved crispy bacon.

Step 16

Serve the smoky sweet spareribs with the prepared baked beans as a side. Enjoy!
