Ingredients

  • 16 oz Macaroni pasta
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 3 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 8 oz Smoked Gouda cheese, shredded
  • 4 oz Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Paprika
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the macaroni until al dente according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it forms a golden paste (roux).

Step 4

Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the smoked Gouda and sharp cheddar cheeses until melted and smooth. Add the salt, pepper, and paprika, and mix well.

Step 6

Remove from heat and fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until evenly coated. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Step 7

In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy your creamy and smoky Gouda macaroni and cheese!
