  • 10 cups Day-old bread (cubed, preferably a mix of white and whole wheat)
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 large Yellow onion (finely chopped)
  • 3 stalks Celery (chopped)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 3 cups Chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh sage (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh rosemary (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 large Eggs (beaten)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare a 6-quart slow cooker by greasing the interior with cooking spray or a light coating of butter.

Step 2

Place the cubed bread in a large bowl. If the bread is not already stale, spread it out on baking sheets and let it dry out for a few hours or lightly toast it in the oven at 250°F (120°C) for about 20 minutes.

Step 3

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onions and celery and sauté until softened, about 5–6 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, stirring frequently. Remove from the heat.

Pour the cooked vegetable mixture over the bread cubes in the bowl.
