Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium, finely diced yellow onion
  • 1 medium, finely diced green bell pepper
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 6 pieces hamburger buns

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked and no longer pink. Use a wooden spoon to break it into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.

Step 2

Transfer the cooked ground beef into the crock pot.

Step 3

Add the finely diced yellow onion and green bell pepper to the crock pot with the ground beef.

Step 4

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Step 5

Pour the sauce mixture over the ground beef and vegetables in the crock pot, and stir to coat everything evenly.

Step 6

Cover the crock pot with the lid and set it to cook on low for 4 hours or on high for 2 hours. Stir occasionally, if possible, to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.

Step 7

Toast the hamburger buns lightly if desired by placing them under a broiler or on a griddle until golden and slightly crisp.

Step 8

Serve the hot, saucy sloppy joe mixture on the hamburger buns. Enjoy!
