Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 0.5 medium green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.75 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.

Step 3

Add the diced onion, diced green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, red wine vinegar, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Step 5

Pour in the water and mix well to combine all the ingredients.

Step 6

Lower the heat to a simmer and let the sauce cook, uncovered, for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Step 7

Taste and adjust seasoning, if needed.

Step 8

Serve the Sloppy Joe sauce over hamburger buns, bread rolls, or your favorite base. Enjoy!
