Ingredients

  • 200 grams All-purpose flour
  • 100 grams Rolled oats
  • 150 grams Brown sugar
  • 150 grams Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon Almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon Honey
  • 1 can (395 grams) Sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons Golden syrup
  • 75 grams Unsalted butter (extra)
  • 200 grams Milk chocolate (chopped)
  • 50 grams Dark chocolate (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Cream

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a 9x9 inch (23x23 cm) square baking tin with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, and brown sugar.

Step 3

Add the melted unsalted butter, almond extract, and honey to the dry ingredients. Stir until evenly combined.

Step 4

Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking tin to create the base layer. Use the back of a spoon to smooth out the surface.

Step 5

Bake the base in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until firm and lightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 6

To prepare the caramel filling, combine the sweetened condensed milk, golden syrup, and extra unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over low to medium heat.

Step 7

Stir continuously for about 8-10 minutes, or until the mixture thickens slightly and turns a golden caramel color.

Step 8

Pour the caramel filling over the cooled oat base and spread it evenly. Return the tin to the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the caramel bubbles slightly. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool completely.

Step 9

For the chocolate topping, melt the milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and cream together in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, or in short bursts in the microwave, stirring frequently to ensure a smooth consistency.

Step 10

Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cooled caramel layer. Tilt the tin gently to spread the chocolate evenly, or use a spatula for a smooth finish.

Step 11

Refrigerate the slice for at least 2 hours, or until the chocolate topping is set.

Step 12

Once set, remove the slice from the tin and cut into 12 squares or rectangles using a sharp knife.

Step 13

Enjoy your Slice of Tuscany Oaty Caramel Slice with a cup of coffee or tea for a delightful treat!
