Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground beef
  • 6 cups Water
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground allspice
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 tablespoon White vinegar
  • 1 large Onion, diced
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 whole Bay leaf
  • 1 pound Spaghetti (cooked)
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Oyster crackers (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large pot, crumble the ground beef and cover with 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat while breaking up the meat with a spoon. Reduce to a simmer and allow the beef to cook, breaking it down further until the meat resembles a fine texture, about 10 minutes.

Step 2

Add the tomato paste, cocoa powder, chili powder, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, cumin, sugar, salt, white vinegar, diced onion, minced garlic, and bay leaf. Stir to combine.

Step 3

Simmer the chili uncovered on low heat for 3 hours, stirring occasionally. If the chili becomes too thick, add small amounts of water to adjust the consistency.

Step 4

Once the chili is fully cooked and the flavors are well combined, remove the bay leaf and adjust seasonings to taste.

Step 5

To serve, place a portion of cooked spaghetti noodles on a plate or bowl. Ladle the chili over the spaghetti and top with shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 6

Serve with optional oyster crackers on the side.
