Ingredients

  • 400 grams ground pork
  • 150 grams shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 medium shiitake mushrooms
  • 50 grams water chestnuts
  • 2 stalks green onions
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon white pepper
  • 30 pieces wonton wrappers
  • 1 small carrot

Directions

Step 1

Start by finely chopping the shrimp into small pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2

Finely dice the shiitake mushrooms, water chestnuts, and green onions. Add them to the bowl with the shrimp.

Step 3

Add the ground pork to the bowl, followed by soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, and white pepper.

Step 4

Using clean hands or a spoon, mix all the ingredients thoroughly until they are well combined and the mixture feels slightly sticky.

Step 5

Peel and finely grate the carrot. Set aside for garnish.

Step 6

Take a wonton wrapper and place about a tablespoon of the filling in the center.

Step 7

Gently gather up the sides of the wrapper and mold it around the filling, leaving the top exposed. You can gently press the open top down slightly to even it out.

Step 8

Place a small pinch of the grated carrot on top of each dumpling as garnish.

Step 9

Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil and reduce it to a simmer.

Step 10

Line the steamer basket with parchment paper or lightly oil it to prevent sticking.

Step 11

Place the siu mai in the steamer basket, leaving space between each to avoid sticking.

Step 12

Cover and steam the siu mai for about 8-10 minutes or until the pork is cooked through.

Step 13

Once cooked, carefully remove the siu mai from the steamer.

Step 14

Serve immediately, optionally with soy sauce or chili oil for dipping.
