Ingredients

  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cup (plus more for brushing) Unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 Large eggs
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water (110°F) and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let cool to lukewarm.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, cooled milk and butter mixture, granulated sugar, egg, flour, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 4

On a floured surface, knead the dough for 8-10 minutes or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use the dough hook attachment on a stand mixer for 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into 2-inch circles using a biscuit cutter or glass.

Step 7

Fold each circle in half and place in a greased baking pan, with the folded edge slightly overlapping the next roll.

Step 8

Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and let them rise for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 9

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter.

Step 10

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.

Step 11

Remove from the oven, brush with more melted butter if desired, and serve warm.
