Ingredients

  • 3 medium Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 200 grams All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 25 grams Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 Large egg
  • 200 milliliters Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 500 milliliters Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 50 grams Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples into rings about 5mm thick. Set aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk and vanilla extract.

Step 4

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until a smooth batter forms.

Step 5

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep saucepan or frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F). Test the temperature using a thermometer or by dropping in a small amount of batter; it should sizzle and float to the surface.

Step 6

Dip the apple slices into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated, and carefully place them into the hot oil one at a time. Avoid overcrowding the pan.

Step 7

Fry the apple fritters in batches, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 8

Repeat with the remaining apple slices and batter.

Step 9

Dust the fritters generously with powdered sugar before serving. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
