Ingredients

  • 6 cups fresh leaf lettuce (e.g., butterhead or romaine)
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel. Tear the lettuce into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large bowl.

Step 2

In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until it is crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, reduce the heat to low and add the granulated sugar, white vinegar, water, salt, and black pepper. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is heated through, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 4

Pour the warm dressing over the lettuce in the bowl. Toss gently but thoroughly to coat the lettuce evenly.

Step 5

Sprinkle the crumbled bacon and optional sliced green onions over the top of the salad.

Step 6

Serve immediately while the lettuce is still slightly warm and wilted. Enjoy!
