Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Ground Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped parsley
  • 4 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 sheets Lasagne noodles (uncooked or pre-cooked)
  • 0.5 cup Water (if using no-boil noodles)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef and ground Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess grease if necessary.

Step 5

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar. Lower the heat to simmer and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to blend flavors.

Step 6

While the meat sauce is simmering, prepare the ricotta mixture by combining ricotta cheese, the egg, and chopped parsley in a medium bowl. Mix until smooth.

Step 7

Spread about 1 cup of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Layer 3-4 lasagne noodles over the sauce, making sure they slightly overlap. If using no-boil noodles, add 1/4 cup of water over this layer.

Step 9

Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese.

Step 10

Add another layer of meat sauce, then noodles, ricotta mixture, and cheeses. Repeat this process for two more layers, ending with a final layer of meat sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.

Step 11

Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 12

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and lightly golden.

Step 13

For best results, let the lasagne rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with additional parsley if desired.
