Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Plain yogurt
  • 0.75 cup Warm water
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.

Step 2

Add the plain yogurt, warm water, and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until the mixture starts to come together.

Step 3

Transfer the dough to a clean, lightly floured surface and knead by hand for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is soft, smooth, and elastic. Alternatively, you can knead the dough using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for about 5-6 minutes.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 5

After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape each one into a ball. Cover the dough balls with a kitchen towel and let them rest for an additional 10-15 minutes.

Step 6

On a lightly floured surface, roll each dough ball into an oval or circular shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

Step 7

Preheat a large skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Do not oil the pan, as naan is traditionally cooked dry.

Step 8

Cook each rolled-out dough piece in the hot skillet for about 1-2 minutes on the first side, or until bubbles form and the bottom develops golden-brown spots. Flip the naan and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side.

Step 9

Remove the cooked naan from the skillet and immediately brush with melted unsalted butter for added flavor and softness.

Step 10

Repeat the process with the remaining dough pieces. Serve warm and enjoy!
