Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small Green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.75 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Yellow mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 Sandwich buns

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Cook over medium heat until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 5

Return the browned ground beef to the skillet and stir to combine with the vegetables.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and add the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together until well combined.

Step 7

Simmer the mixture on low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together and thicken slightly.

Step 8

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 9

Toast the sandwich buns if desired, and spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade sloppy joes!
