Ingredients

  • 2 broccoli crowns
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 3 tablespoons raisins
  • 2 tablespoons pine nuts
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Cut the broccoli crowns into florets and rinse them thoroughly under cold water. Set aside to drain.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 2-3 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender. Drain and transfer to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Once cooled, drain well.

Step 3

While the broccoli cools, thinly slice the garlic cloves.

Step 4

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and red pepper flakes, stirring constantly, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.

Step 5

Add the raisins to the skillet and cook for 1 minute, allowing them to slightly plump up in the hot oil.

Step 6

Stir in the pine nuts and toast for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until they are golden brown.

Step 7

Add the cooked broccoli florets to the skillet and toss to coat in the flavorful oil mixture. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is tender but still slightly crisp.

Step 8

Drizzle the lemon juice over the broccoli and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss everything together to ensure even seasoning.

Step 9

Remove the skillet from heat and transfer the Sicilian Broccoli to a serving bowl. Serve warm or at room temperature.
