Ingredients

  • 1 lb Large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 0.25 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger (grated)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 stalks Green onions (sliced, optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, honey, grated ginger, and minced garlic to create the teriyaki sauce.

Step 2

In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry and set aside.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

Pour the teriyaki sauce into the skillet and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

Step 6

Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook the sauce for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens to a glossy consistency.

Step 7

Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet, tossing to coat them in the thickened teriyaki sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat the shrimp through.

Step 8

Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.

Step 9

Serve hot over steamed rice or with your choice of vegetables. Enjoy!
