Ingredients

  • 1 lb Shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 4 tbsp Butter (unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups Milk (whole)
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 Shallot (minced)
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese (shredded)
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs (panko or plain)
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Paprika
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a medium-sized baking dish.

Step 2

In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and sauté the minced shallot and garlic until they become soft and fragrant, about 2 minutes.

Step 3

Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the skillet and sauté until just pink and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, whisking continuously to create a roux.

Step 5

Slowly whisk in the milk and heavy cream, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook the mixture for 3-5 minutes, or until it thickens.

Step 6

Add the grated Parmesan cheese and half of the shredded Gruyere cheese to the sauce. Stir until melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and lemon juice. Remove the skillet from heat.

Step 7

Spread the cooked shrimp evenly in the prepared baking dish. Pour the creamy cheese sauce over the shrimp, ensuring they are well coated.

Step 8

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, the remaining Gruyere cheese, and olive oil. Mix until the breadcrumbs are moistened.

Step 9

Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the shrimp and sauce in the baking dish.

Step 10

Bake the dish in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Step 11

Garnish the Shrimp Au Gratin with fresh parsley and serve hot. Enjoy!
